I would like to welcome you to the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Agriculture’s website.
The College has a three-part mission-education, research, and service-that covers a range of areas within the natural sciences, forestry and agriculture. We offer 23 undergraduate majors, 14 Ph.D. programs, 20 M.S. degree programs, and five master of professional studies programs that provide students with a wide range of educational opportunities. Our more than 150 faculty are involved in cutting-edge research in areas ranging from molecular biology to agricultural production, from marine policy to sustainable forestry, from wildlife management to community development, to name but a few. And through their connections with Maine’s agricultural, forestry, and marine producers, our faculty serve as an important part of Maine’s research and development capacity. College faculty also collaborate with scientists from across the country and around the world, bringing new perspectives for solving research questions of importance to Maine.
Students in our college study with excellent faculty and often take part in exciting research projects. The college has a wide array of research forests, farms, watersheds, and supporting laboratory and greenhouse facilities, which provide students with hands-on experiences to enhance their in-class learning. For example, our animal science students work with cows, sheep, and horses at our livestock research facility, which gives the students valuable experience with large animals and increases their success rate for getting into veterinary school. Our marine science students have access to the Darling Marine Center in Walpole and an exciting Semester-by-the-Sea program that provides an environment for active learning. These are but two examples of the many opportunities available for our students.
There is a lot more happening at the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Agriculture than I can mention here. I invite you to explore our website to find out more about the College, and if you’d like more information, please feel free to contact us.
